ABB REM543 Motor Protection Relay

Product Brief Introduction REM543 is numerical motor protection intelligent electronic device for low‑voltage and medium‑voltage motor applications. It integrates motor protection, current‑voltage measurement, motor control, fault recording and communication functions. It samples instrument transformer secondary signals, judges motor overload, locked‑rotor and phase‑fault conditions, outputs trip command for motor contactor or circuit‑breaker. It is mounted inside motor control cabinet.

Technical Specifications Motor‑dedicated protection functions including overload, locked‑rotor, phase‑unbalance, earth‑fault and under‑voltage protection. Configurable analog input, binary input and binary output channels. Supports Modbus RTU communication protocol. Auxiliary power supply 85‑265 V AC / 80‑250 V DC. Typical power consumption 9 W. Operating temperature ‑20 ℃ to +55 ℃, storage temperature ‑40 ℃ to +85 ℃, non‑condensing relative humidity 5%‑95%. Front‑panel IP40, rear terminal area IP20. Complies with CE and IEC motor‑protection standards.

Functional Features Provides full‑set protection for AC motors. Measures motor current, voltage and thermal load value. Collects auxiliary contact signals of motor switching equipment, realizes start‑stop control. Stores fault event records and fault current data. Front‑panel HMI supports on‑site parameter modification and status check. LED indicators reflect power, running, trip and alarm conditions. Built‑in hardware self‑diagnosis monitors internal component status.

Application Scenarios Placed inside motor control cabinet. Used for protection and monitoring of industrial AC motors in chemical, metallurgy, water‑treatment industries. Suitable for constant‑speed motor driving occasions.

Working Principle Power‑on triggers complete hardware self‑diagnosis procedure. Secondary CT and VT signals enter signal conditioning and sampling unit. Main processor continuously runs motor protection logic and thermal‑model calculation. When motor fault threshold conditions are satisfied, trip command is sent to binary output channel to cut off motor power supply. Fault records can be checked locally or uploaded to upper monitoring system over communication links.

Installation Requirements Fix device firmly inside motor control cabinet. Connect auxiliary power supply within rated voltage scope. Complete CT, VT and binary‑loop wiring strictly per engineering schematic. Connect communication cables for remote monitoring function. Set motor protection parameters via front‑panel or supporting software.
