GE IC698CHS217 17‑Slot Control Chassis

Product Brief Introduction The GE IC698CHS217 is a 17‑slot backplane chassis designed for GE PACSystem RX7i series control system. It provides physical installation positions and high‑speed parallel backplane bus for CPU, communication, I/O and power supply modules, acting as the core mechanical and electrical carrier for RX7i main rack or expansion rack.

Technical Specifications Total Slot Quantity: 17 functional module slots Backplane Bus: RX7i high‑speed parallel VME‑style backplane Maximum 5VDC Backplane Current: 25A Dielectric Isolation Voltage: 1500V RMS Operating Ambient Temperature: 0°C to +60°C Storage Temperature: ‑40°C to +85°C Relative Humidity: 5%‑95%, non‑condensing Certification: CE, UL, cUL

Functional Features It supports large‑capacity installation for up to 17 modules. Every slot comes with an independent mechanical locking latch.  It delivers full hardware compatibility with all RX7i plug‑in modules.

Application Scenarios RX7i main control rack setup High‑density I/O automation cabinet Process industry control system Power plant automation cabinet Legacy system spare‑part replacement and equipment retrofitting.

Performance Parameters It offers stable, deterministic high‑speed backplane data transmission. A single faulty slot will not crash the whole backplane bus. Shock and Vibration: Complies with IEC 60068 industrial environmental standard

Material Composition Housing: Cold‑rolled steel with anti‑corrosive powder‑coated finish Backplane substrate: Multi‑layer FR‑4 industrial printed circuit board Contact finger material: Gold‑plated copper alloy Mechanical fasteners: Zinc‑plated carbon steel

Structural Characteristics The unit adopts rigid metal industrial enclosure structure. Modules insert horizontally through the front opening. Each slot fits a spring‑loaded mechanical locking latch.

Working Principle All slots connect electrically to the integrated high‑speed backplane bus. After operators insert functional modules, stable power paths and bidirectional data channels take shape. CPU, I/O and communication modules obtain power and exchange real‑time data through this printed‑circuit bus.

Installation Requirements Mount the chassis in the control cabinet via DIN‑rail clip or screw holes. Make sure the metal housing connects to reliable protective earth ground. Calculate total power draw of all inserted modules. Total load cannot exceed 25A @5VDC.  Keep cabinet ventilation passages open to avoid overheating and condensation.

Usage Notes Only install genuine RX7i compatible plug‑in modules. Never go beyond the maximum rated backplane current load.
